Restoring Honor Rally

August 28 - Steve & Prestin hitched a ride with a group from Chapel Woods Church in Snelville, GA to participate in what will prove to be a historic rally of epic proportions! The rally was about a call to restore honor in our nation. Here's our travellers as they stand before the nation's Capital Building in Washington DC. They had just spent the last 12+ hours in a bus which dropped them some 4 miles away... and they walked the distance! The Capital Building up close and personal!
Prestin ready to witness history!
Looking back at the Capital Building as we continued on to the rally at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
That's us trucking on (bottom left side). At this point you can not tell that there was a huge crowd gathering. The tall spire in the distance is the Washington Monument. Forty seven years ago on this very day, Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous "I have a dream" message from these same steps on the Lincoln Memorial! The Washington Monument is the tallest structure in DC. No other building is allowed to be built taller. Did you know that on top of it, facing the heavens above, is carved the words "PRAISE BE TO GOD" (translated from Latin)? And yet it is barely taller than Prestin! Looking toward the gathering crowd in front of the Lincoln Memorial.
We worked our way through the crowd.
We found a place in the shade on the slope of a grassy hill facing the Reflecting Pool. Though we could not see the Lincoln Memorial directly (because of the same trees giving us shade), we had a huge screen right in front of us. Folks paraded by on the path below with flags carrying various messages.
This soldier carrying the flag got a standing ovation.
Did I mention crowds? Immediately prior to the rally starting several geese flew in perfect V formation up the Reflecting Pool. It was the first of many goose bump moments, sensing God's orchestration of the event! The rally began with a call to prayer. Here we are standing with over a half million people repenting and praying for our nation! It was AWESOME!!!
Glenn Beck (and team) did an amazing job pulling this off. Here he is speaking, which he did very well.
Here is how we saw it.Prestin sitting down for a bit.
Yes we were actually there!
The rally concluded with a bag pipe led chorus of Amazing Grace. Remember we were singing with a lot of people. Definitely a goose bumps moment!
Just to be sure you understood, there was a lot of people here!
More photos from other vantage spots. For you Aussie friends of ours, this is Abraham Lincoln.Looking out from the Lincoln Memorial.
More people.A 360 degree perspective...Stepping back a bit more... Beginning our 4 mile journey back to our bus. The Capital Building from still another side! A new perspective is being birthed!
As the rally began the media was saying there were thousands present. They revised it to say tens of thousands. But in reality as you can tell by the photos, there were over 500,000 people crammed up along the side up front and down the middle. And there were over 130,00 folks watching it on Facebook. We were privileged to be here at our nation's capital for this historic event! May God indeed be praised in our nation! May He raise up a people of honor and integrity, who live their lives by His principles and precepts! May this be the beginning of a new day in the United States of America! Thanks be to God who brought us back from Australia for such a time as this!
